AGT News Release

Hinton wins in sudden death, Hoyle takes second.

Byron Nelson didn’t make it to our Classic nor did Tiger, however Paul Hinton brought his entire bag of tricks and showed the field that he was for real. When Co Commissioner Adams stood during the trophy ceramony and said, "Paul Hinton is the winner", I heard several members say "who is Paul Hinton". Paul, better known as the Southside Kid, spends most of his time at Lake Spivey Country Club trying to make a name for himself. Mr. Hinton made quite an introduction May 18 at the First Annual AGT Byron Nelson Classic played at CountryLand Golf Course in Cumming, GA. Paul drove 10 fairways and hit 6 greens in regulation and shot a net 66 for the day to tie Gary Hoyle. Sudden death was won by Hinton at the 9th hole at CountryLand to capture his first event victory.

"I owe it all to my dedication of the sport and a burning desire to be number one".

Thank You CountryLand for your hospitality.

Golf Professional, Chuck Scoggins donated a box of golf balls and a hat of our choice to the winners of the closest to the pin contest held on hole number five and fifteen. The winners were, Jeff Valliere at fifteen for the box of balls and Brent Featherstone at five for the hat. The winner of the AGT closest to the pin on hole number ten was Russ Smith, who attacked the pin but missed the four foot birdie put.

"I’m going to win the long drive today" this was the exact quote made by Kyle Gilreath before he made his first golf swing Sunday. Kyle drove his ball around 389 yards, we figured it hit on the downside of the hill and just kept on rolling. It was about 35 yards past Jeff Valliere’s monster drive.
